On Sunday evening, a shooting broke out at Bondi Beach in Sydney, prompting a major response from police and emergency services. The New South Wales Police Force said they were responding to reports of shots fired and warned people in the area to stay away and take shelter while the situation was still unfolding.

Police later confirmed that two people were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Officers set up a wide police cordon around the beach and surrounding streets as they worked to secure the scene.

Videos shared online appear to show people running and scrambling for safety after multiple shots were heard, and emergency vehicles rushed to the area with sirens blaring.

Authorities also said they were treating the situation as a “developing incident” and urged anyone nearby to follow official instructions and avoid the Bondi Beach area until more information is available.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other leaders acknowledged the event, calling the scenes “shocking and distressing,” and emergency services continued to work at the site into the night.

At this stage, official details about how many people were injured or the motive behind the shooting have not been fully confirmed. Police investigations are ongoing.
