The NSW SES is advising people in the following area(s) to SEEK SHELTER NOW due to impacts from Tropical Cyclone Alfred UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO EVACUATE DUE TO EXPECTED FLOODING. Cyclone impacts occurring include destructive wind gusts, heavy to locally intense rainfall, and severe coastal hazards:

  • Tweed Heads
  • Chinderah
  • Kingscliff
  • Casuarina
  • Hastings Point
  • Pottsville
  • Murwillumbah
  • Crabbes Creek
  • Mullumbimby
  • Brunswick Heads
  • Byron Bay

The Bureau of Meteorology advises People between Tweed Heads and South of Byron Bay should seek shelter now until conditions have eased and listen to warnings.

  •  DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of up to 120 kilometres per hour are occurring now.
  • DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS of up to 155 kilometres will develop from tonight and persist until early Saturday morning.
  • HEAVY to locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is likely to continue through the weekend.
  • ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES and DAMAING SURF could cause flooding particularly during tonight’s high tide.

Very strong winds can knock down trees and powerlines, blow roofs off houses, and blow away anything not tied down outside. This is a risk to life.

Heavy rain will continue after the winds ease and this will make the flooding worse.

Power, phone, and internet may stop working. They could be out for a long time.

There may be multiple warnings for your area due to the wind, heavy rain and flooding.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
