A newly released video captures the moment police intercepted an alleged hit squad on their way to carry out a targeted killing at a daycare centre in south-west Sydney. According to police, the intended victim is believed to be connected to organised crime and was allegedly targeted due to tensions arising from a breakdown within a transnational criminal organisation. Authorities suspect the man may have been en route to the daycare to collect his child at the time the arrests were made.

The accused men were taken into custody yesterday during a dramatic police operation on The River Road in Revesby, where tactical officers fired shots at multiple vehicles. Two of the suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested from a Mitsubishi Outlander, while a third man, aged 26, was apprehended from a nearby Mercedes-Benz. The younger pair now face several serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unauthorised firearm, riding in a stolen vehicle, involvement in a criminal group, and breaching bail conditions.

The 26-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and participation in a criminal group. All three men were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in court today.

Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, who led the operation, said the suspects’ behaviour such as allegedly wearing balaclavas and using false number plates signaled to police the seriousness of their planned attack. During the arrests, officers recovered two pistols, balaclavas, body-worn cameras, and jerry cans filled with fuel from the vehicles. Overnight, police executed several search warrants across Sydney’s south-west, seizing additional evidence including electronic devices. A third firearm was also recovered during the searches.

Assistant Commissioner Scott Cook stated that the intended victim was targeted due to internal conflict within a transnational crime syndicate. “We believe this is an internal matter within the organisation,” he said. He also expressed serious concern over the group’s willingness to carry out a killing in a public place, such as near a daycare centre, where innocent people could have been harmed.

Detective Superintendent Peter Faux added that the three accused men had no personal connection to the victim. “They were hired by a syndicate possibly one operating from overseas to carry out the murder on their behalf,” he said.

A witness video captured the intense moment a police officer aimed a weapon at someone inside one of the vehicles involved. “We heard some gunshots going off,” one local resident said. “I started walking out of my house, heard more gunshots, and then saw cars swerving.” During the operation, tactical police also took on the role of traffic control, redirecting vehicles as they arrested the suspects.

At a press conference this morning, police firmly denied that the operation posed any risk to the public. Assistant Commissioner Scott Cook confirmed that officers used non-lethal rounds during the arrest. He praised the NSW Police tactical unit, calling it possibly “the best in the country,” and said the team had developed several contingency plans based on how the alleged hit squad might respond.
